Porsche, Lamborghini, Lotus, Bugatti – the names are synonymous with luxury and performance. Asgar Virji has the envious title of President at Weissach - Lamborghini Vancouver - Lotus of Vancouver - Bugatti Vancouver. Weissach is also Canada’s largest independent Porsche store and the retailer of this esteemed lineup. With his own motorsport record dating back to the 1980s, Virji is a man who knows his way around an engine.
“We’ve always been involved in track days,” says Virji. He’s part of a world where work and pleasure overlap; friends are customers and clients quickly become friends. “Any time you’re talking cars with your customer, you’re talking cars with your friend.”
In the early days, Virji and friends built a Porsche to race at their local track. “It was an old 356 we lovingly called ‘Elvis’”, he says with a laugh. “I don’t really remember why.” What Virji does remember is the overwhelming feeling of camaraderie among fellow motorsports enthusiasts – whether it’s on the track or in the garage.
In becoming a member of Area 27, Virji continues the spirit of community support that resonates so strongly at WEISSACH. “We have no track in BC”, explains Virji. “In the old days, Westwood was fine. But now we go elsewhere – like Washington. Having a highly outfitted facility in BC will go a long way with the people buying these cars.” Virji sees investment in Area 27 as a natural step for him and the brands he represents. “Everybody has to take a leap of faith.”
If you’re considering membership at Area 27, Virji has some advice: “If you’re an enthusiast and want to be part of the game, now’s the time to make a go of it. At some point in your life you have to be a doer, not just a talker. Doers get places in life.”
Thanks, Asgar. We couldn’t have said it any better.
